Scraped Clean

Um, cleaner. There are odd white patches on the wall that are just plaster over the original plaster, with only the newest two layers of wallpaper over the top. Then there are places (not pictured) where there are wall patches of plaster with all five or six layers of wallpaper and paint over the top. I am loathing all previous owners of this house for making my job really, really a lot harder than it should be.

On the other hand, two of the older, 5-layer-covered patches on the kitchen/LR wall were identified by the contractor as the places where a wood-burning stove was attached directly to the chimney and where it had its pipe enter the wall higher up. The pipe was exposed to further distribute heat to the room, I think. I do like seeing those bits of history, though I’d rather not have to scrape wallpaper off them.
