New stores redefine home improvement in Manhattan

When Lowe’s opened its first Manhattan stores last September in Chelsea and the Upper West Side, employees looked for opportunities to share their passion for home improvement. The store locations – in the heart of the city and in the middle of walkable neighborhoods that thousands call home – gave the teams the unique opportunity to make a big impact almost immediately.

To celebrate the Upper West Side store opening, more than 100 Lowe’s Heroes employee volunteers cleaned and painted dozens of benches along Broadway, revitalizing the Lincoln Square community. The work continued throughout the year, stretching from the city’s streets to its parks. Volunteers from Lowe’s of Chelsea concentrated their efforts just a few blocks from the store in Chelsea Waterside Park, working through an unseasonably cool and rainy summer morning to spruce up the gardens.
